Rope & Rattan
11Hand-woven rope and all-weather rattan for a relaxed, textural look.
Rattan furniture and rope outdoor furniture give a terrace a softer, hand-made texture than metal or resin. This collection gathers rattan garden furniture, rope-weave lounge sets and hanging chairs for villas, covered verandas and holiday homes.
Rattan garden furniture in Cyprus: synthetic, natural and rope
- Synthetic rattan over an aluminium frame, as on the Corsica sofa set with abaco XF weave and MarinePLUS synthetic leather, takes sun and does not rust. Cushions still need to come inside in rain.
- Rope weave, like the PVC rope on the painted aluminium Banes sofa set, feels softer to the touch and dries quickly. The set is heavy (96 kg), so it stays put in wind.
- Natural wicker, used on the Bahamas 3-piece lounge set, looks warm but belongs under a roof: rain and constant UV dry and split natural fibre.
- Some frames are iron, as on the swivel Rotary armchair, which is meant for covered terraces and sunrooms.
Sizes that fit real terraces
A 3-seat Jordano sofa is 204 cm wide with Sunbrella cushions, and the matching table is 143 x 80 cm. The Barco rattan table comes in 180, 235 and 330 cm lengths with a glass top for dining for 6-12. Hanging chairs need floor space: the Carpaia stand is 95 cm across and 195 cm high.
Care in the Cyprus climate
Brush dust and sand out of the weave, wash with mild soapy water and let it dry in the sun. Near the coast, rinse frames with fresh water once a month to remove salt. Store cushions dry over the winter rains, and keep natural wicker indoors from November.
Rattan vs teak vs resin
Outdoor wicker furniture is lighter than teak and needs no oiling, but resin pieces from the resin collection are easier to wipe and stack. For a frame that ignores rain completely, look at the aluminium collection or our materials guide.
