Swing Chairs

Hanging and freestanding swing chairs.

Swing chairs for a terrace, a balcony or a corner under a pergola: hanging chairs on their own stand, often called egg or cocoon chairs, and a rocking garden swing on an aluminium frame. Every model here is freestanding, so nothing needs to be fixed to a ceiling or a beam.

Stand size and the space around it

Measure the floor first. The Carpaia hanging chair stands on a round base of Ø95 cm and is 195 cm tall; the Panarea needs Ø105 cm at the same height. Leave some clear space on each side so the seat can move without touching a wall or railing, and on a balcony check that the door still opens past the stand.

Materials and comfort

  • Synthetic rattan seats (Carpaia, Panarea): woven resin fibre that does not splinter or soak up rain, on a matte metal stand. Carpaia comes in grey, natural brown or white.
  • Rope on aluminium: the Spargi rocking swing has a light grey rope seat on an anthracite aluminium frame, measures 106 x 105 x 196 cm, weighs 31.9 kg and has removable covers.
  • Metal with a wicker-style weave: the Glasgow 1-seater swing is a round seat on an anthracite frame, 105 x 156 x 105 cm.

Living with a swing chair in Cyprus

These chairs are made for home use. Strong sun is fine for rattan and rope, but bring the cushions in before rain and over winter, and wipe the frame after dusty or salty days near the coast. A swing chair works best as a quiet extra seat next to a lounge set rather than the main seating. Add colour with outdoor cushions, compare with loungers in pool sunbeds, and see layout ideas for a small balcony lounge.
