How to Choose a Sunlounger for Cyprus
Sunloungers differ more than they look: material, length, whether they stack and whether they need cushions decide how they work by a pool in Cyprus.
Material
- Resin (fiberglass resin or polypropylene), as in the Nardi range of Alfa, Omega, Plano and Atlantico: one-piece, stackable and simple to wipe down. Resin does not rust and copes with chlorine splashes and salt air, which is why it is common on hotel decks.
- Aluminium frame, for example the Torino, 207 × 76 × 50 cm: a powder-coated aluminium frame with a textilene sling, light to move and quick to dry. Add a cushion for extra softness, but cushions need to be stored or covered.
- Outdoor fabric, for example the PIANO (225 × 92 × 36 cm) in olefin outdoor fabric: a soft, wide bed that dries quickly, with two wheels to move it.
Size
Most of our resin models are about 170 cm long (Plano: 178 cm); cushioned and fabric models run longer, up to 225 cm. Measure the space along the pool edge and leave room to walk between loungers.
Two lengths matter. The Nardi Alfa measures 170 cm with the backrest raised and 194.5 cm lying flat; the Nardi Plano 178 and 211 cm; the Nardi Atlantico 171 and 204 cm. Plan with the flat length, because that is how most people use a lounger in the afternoon. Widths are about 70-76 cm for single loungers; the PIANO at 92 cm feels closer to a day bed.
As a rough layout: allow about 60 cm between two loungers for a side table or a path, and about a metre behind or in front of the row for walking. A pair of loungers with an umbrella between them needs a strip of about 2.2 × 2.2 m.
Seat height and backrest
Seat height decides how easy it is to sit down and get up. The Alfa seat is 30 cm high, the Atlantico 35 cm and the Plano 36 cm; the PIANO is a low 36 cm overall. Older guests usually prefer a higher seat. All three Nardi models have a four-position backrest, and the Plano lies fully flat for sunbathing on your front.
Comfort without cushions
The Alfa and Atlantico use a breathable fabric seat on a resin frame, and the Atlantico's fabric adapts to body weight. That means comfort without a cushion to store every evening. If you want extra softness, the Plano has a matching 6 cm cushion with a removable cover; see our guide to outdoor cushion fabrics.
Stacking
If loungers are cleared every evening or stored for winter, choose a stackable model: all the Nardi resin sunloungers above stack. The Alfa (13.5 kg) and Atlantico (16 kg) also have wheels, so one person can move them to follow the shade. Hotels and beach clubs that reset the deck daily can browse stackable sunbeds.
Home or hotel?
For a villa pool, comfort and look come first, and a few loungers rarely need to stack. The Torino is listed for domestic use. For a hotel deck, choose stackable resin with wheels, a colour that hides sunscreen marks, and spare fabric seats: the Nardi fabrics are interchangeable. Our hotel pool sunbed area guide and the hotel and beach club sunbeds collection cover commercial layouts.
Common mistakes
- Measuring only the raised length and finding loungers block the path when they lie flat.
- Choosing dark colours for a deck with no shade: they get hot by midday.
- Buying cushioned loungers for a rental villa where nobody will bring cushions in.
Availability
Nardi models are usually in stock; many others are made to order. Check the badge on each product page, or ask us for lead times. Compare all models in pool sunbeds, or read Nardi Alfa vs Atlantico.
