Modular Outdoor Sofa Sizes: Planning a Nardi Komodo or Maximo Layout

A modular sofa is built from separate pieces (middle and end or corner modules), so you can fit a straight run, an L-shape or a U-shape to your terrace. Sizes below are from the product characteristics; measure your space before you choose.

Nardi Komodo modules

• Middle module (Elemento Centrale): 72 × 78 × 88 cm, one seat.
• End module (Elemento Terminale): 72 × 78 × 88 cm.
• Armchair (Poltrona): 79 × 78 × 88 cm.
• Pouf: 72 × 72 × 47.5 cm: extra seat or footrest.
• Coffee table (Tavolino): 70 × 70 × 32.5 cm.
• Ready-made Komodo 5 sofa: 294 × 78 × 88 cm, with a depth of 154 cm at its deeper section.

Nardi Maximo modules

• Middle module (Elemento Centrale): 96 × 84.5 × 79 cm.
• Corner module (Elemento Angolo): 95 × 95 × 79 cm.
• Armrest (Bracciolo): closes an open end.
• Pouf: 84.5 × 84.5 × 45.5 cm.
• Coffee table (Tavolino): 80 × 80 × 25.5 cm.
• Ready-made Maximo 5 sofa: listed at 182 × 341 × 79 cm.

Maximo modules are deeper and wider, so the same number of seats takes more room than Komodo.

Worked examples

• A straight Komodo three-seater: end + middle + end modules come to 3 × 72 = 216 cm wide and 78 cm deep.
• A Maximo L-shape with two middle modules on each side of the corner: 95 + 2 × 96 = 287 cm along each wall, plus 5 cm for an armrest on each open end.
• The ready-made Komodo 5 needs 294 cm of wall, and 154 cm of depth where its deeper section sits, so check both depths on your plan.

Space around the sofa

• Leave about 40-50 cm between the sofa and the coffee table.
• Keep a walkway of about 70-90 cm behind or beside the sofa.
• On a balcony, a straight run of two or three modules plus a pouf is often easier than an L-shape.

Seat height and comfort

Komodo seats sit at 47.5 cm, close to a dining chair, so they are easy to get up from. Maximo is lower at 45.5 cm, with a 21 cm seat cushion and a 19 cm back cushion for lounging. Each pouf matches its own range: the Komodo pouf is 47.5 cm high and the Maximo Pouf 45.5 cm, so pushed against a module it extends the seat into a daybed. Coffee tables follow the same logic: the Komodo Tavolino is 32.5 cm high, the Maximo Tavolino only 25.5 cm for the deeper, lower seat.

Materials and the Cyprus climate

Both frames are moulded resin, so they do not rust or need painting and cope with full sun. Maximo cushions are covered in Sunbrella acrylic with 8/8 lightfastness, washable at 30°C and treated to repel water and stains, with zip covers. Even so, bring cushions inside or keep them in a storage box during rain and over the winter, because foam takes a long time to dry. Weight and moving

A Komodo middle module weighs 10.9 kg and an end module 12.6 kg, so one person can move a module. Assembled sofas are a different matter: the Komodo 5 weighs 61 kg and the Maximo 5 78.2 kg, so plan for two people and check the route through doors, stairs and lifts before delivery.

Common mistakes

• Measuring the terrace but not the door or the lift the modules must pass through.
• Leaving a Maximo end open: add a Bracciolo armrest.
• Placing an L-shape so that it blocks the door to the terrace.
• Choosing a coffee table too high for low lounge seating.

1. Measure length and depth of the area. 2. Add up module widths for the run you want, plus the corner module for an L-shape. 3. Check which modules come with cushions in the product characteristics.
